Is that why I need the extra relay ? Just drove the car and fans come on at temp and then when I shut the car and leave ignition on the fans stay on

^ that's normal.

The purpose of the 2nd relay was to convert from positive trigger to negative trigger.

When you remove the key (IGN OFF) the fans should turn off. With IGN ON, the relay is getting power and therefore fans are powered.

So any reason they don't kick on with ac ? I see in your diagram there's fuses under dash too? Maybe I'm reading it wrong

Or can I run a switch between the Orange wire and just flick it on when I turn ac on ?

There indeed is an under-dash fuse box and that fuse is fine, as both fans share the same fuse. If it was blown, neither fan would work.

Don't put a switch on the Orange wire. In the OFF position, the fans will NOT turn on when your car heats up and the AC is off.

Answer me this:

When the car heats up and AC is off, do fans turn on? If so, both?
When the car is cold and AC is on, do fans turn on? If so, both?

Just checking the obvious - your AC is working fine, correct?

If yes, to me it appears there's an open on the Green wire somewhere between the ECU (A20 in diagram) to where the Green wire is Tee'd off below the radiator fan relay.

I don't know how the wire is exactly routed, you'll need the electrical shop manual for that.
