Default Specs for driveshaft-to-diff allen screws

I'm finding it almost impossible to not strip the bolts connecting the drive shaft to the differential. Does anyone know the specs for replacements?

Any advice as far as removing them?

I used a L allen wrench, lightly tapped the wrench in with a ball peen hammer and while holding it in, tapped the end of the wrench with the hammer until it broke free. I stripped one before I started doing it that way.

If you've already stripped them a small grinder saw is your best bet. just saw the heads off being careful not to saw into your driveshaft. Alot of guys don't even bother with using the allen head bolts after removal and find some automotive grade hex head bolts to make life easier the next time. But if you haven't stripped them if you can grind down the tip of the allen wrench to wear the edges are sharp and not rounded at all it will grip better. Then do as stated above.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll give both methods a shot.

I was thinking of going to hex bolts once it is removed. Anyone have the thread pitch and length?

An old mechanic trick to help prevent threads galling when removing is to shock them loose as stated above with a suitable hammer and before they get into a bind when removing , tap the wrench with a hammer in the tighten direction.Work them back and forth like this and it will help prevent stripping as it doesn't allow a gall to begin and pile up in the thread groove before it is sheared off by running it back the other direction. Hope that made sense. Some pentetrating oil will help with the operation as well.

i think its a 6mm allen. my method of doing it would be to put the short L part of the allen into the bolt, and then put a closed end of a wrench to break it loose.

tapping with a rubber mallet while a had a wrench attached along with pentetrating oil seemed to work for me.
