Default Squeeking noise.....

Hey guys, Im posting here after exhaustive research, and need slightly more info. About a year ago, my car developed a slight squeek somewhere in the "behind the passenger seat area." This squeek only comes around when you ride on uneven/rough pavement.

Now, I let it go for a while, and then it got REALLY annoying. I thought maybe it was the top joints that dried up. So, I greased them all. Didnt do anything, and the noise is getting more and more pronounced. From using the search, I discovered that a few members has a massive squeek that had something to do with the seatbelt. (Not the buckle banging against the plastic....something internal). The posts stated you take something apart, wrap something in felt, blah blah blah.....but was still very unclear. Can someone clarify this for me a little more. Im gonna explode if I dont fix this soon.

Also, if someone can tell me how I can adjust the top latches, that would be great. The passenger side one makes a rattling sound when I slam a hard bump. (the two issues are not related.

Thanks again for the help!

oh snap. I have big ass squeeking noise as well! I should say its more of cracking sound then squeeking. Mine seems to comming from softop frame. Whenver i hit a bump on the road, this "CRACK" sound comes somewhere from top part. It sometimes scares me. Imma go get it checked soon at dealership and let you know if it helps you any.

I have the crack sound from the passenger latch...only when I slam a nice pothole. However, the noise from the rear is definetely a squeek. Its infuriating. (think jumping on an OLD spring matress, or remember those wire framed bunkbeds you had in camp? That noise)

Did you try lubing all the rubber parts of the top with sil. grease and the metal joints with spray lithium?

I had the loudest noise when I hit bumps. There is a hard to find bumber about 3-4 inches below the top of the door. When the top is up the verticle piece of top frame contacts the back side of the door jam there. Silicone Grease on this part solved my prob. If you have the noise top down, this is not your problem, though.

Hmmm...the noise isnt really there top down. Care to elaborate a little more on where this part is exactly?

Open up your top and look for a square cavity where the alignment pin sets on the windshield. Then cut aprx. 1/2" felt tape and tape into the cavity so that the pin don't touch when the top is closed. No more metal to metal noise and wear.
Its a easy fix.
I have a picture of the fix, but I don't know how to post them. Maybe I should email to someone that can post it for me.

The "bumber plate" for lack of a better term that I fixed my noise by lubing can be seen with the top down looking from the above. It is a black rectangular steel plate about 1" by 2". With the seat all the way back, look past the paintbush-like deals in the top operating slot. The bumper plate can be seen inside the top operating slot about lined up with the seatbelt loop on the seatback. The bumper is only an inch or two down in the top operating slot. Put a blob of sil. grease on it.

Thank you, that sounds like the culprit. Ill lube it up, and report back.
