Starter after-run noise

OK..I have replaced the timing chain tensioner assy in my car, and the noise is gone so far. One of my customers had what appeared to be the same noise all the time. Replacing the Mobl1 filter with a PCX did the trick. (I know it sounds wack)
g-s2k...I've got an engine job that has been apart for a while and has prolly run pretty dry. I will shoot for the oil pump area and let you know

If you find the source of this I would like to know I have heard this same noise 3 times now with no obvious reason or condition behind it. My engine was just rebuilt at Ganely so I wouldnt expect anything too far out of the ordinary.
To me it just sounds like the starter is "sticking" for about half a second after the engine turns over.

You may want to watch your oil pressure light when you start your car. If it's been sitting a few days and all of the oil drains out of the filter, you're going to get a decent amount of valve chatter until the oil starts flowing.
That customer of Billman250 likely had this issue, although both the PCX and the Mobil1 filter have silicone anti-drainback valves.
And when you do an oil change, see if you have the same noise after startup (assuming you don't prefill your oil filter).

Billman, my 5 year old daily driver S2k has the starter run on noise for a second around once a week and as a result I have now been listening intently every time I start the vehicle.
Maybe it is my imagination running wild but I am now of the impression that I get the screech for a tiny fraction of a second after every start.
This has me nervous in case it is a camchain tensioner or oil related problem. Were you able to ascertain for certain that it is cam chain related and what are your views if I leave it a while before I fix it. Is there potential for a catastrophic failure?

I have the same problem... if anyone gets this fixed or finds out what it is PLEASE PLEASE post it here so that I can tell my dealership what the hell to look for. Of course the noise has NEVER occurred at the dealer.. seems that it likes cold starts in the morning only...
