Default Starting Issue

Something weird happened to my s2k yesterday, and I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Last night, I tried to start the car but when I put the keys in, and pressed the start button, nothing happened. The dash went on and everything but no sound. So I held the start button, and pumped the clutch a few times. Each time I pumped it, it made a sound like it was going to crank, but it stops like half a second in. I did this about 5 times, and finally on the 5th time it worked. Just for safety, I turned on and off a few times, and the same thing happens each time, so I decide to leave the car at home, and take it to a shop. This morning, same thing happened, I had to pump the clutch a few times to get the car going, however after I left the car at the shop, the mechanic wasnt able to reproduce the problem.

Both my dad and I think its the starter, but if it is, it shouldnt have anything to do with whether or not the engine is cold or not right? The mechanic wants to wait till the car is cold again before trying to reproduce the problem. The problem so far has only happened when the car was cold. Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm not sure when the battery was replaced last time, but I dont feel like its the battery because all the lights are on, and the radio turns on when i try to start it. There just isn't any clicks at all, aside from the sound of the motor trying to turn, but it stops. I have to pump the clutch, which gets the motor to turn for like .5 seconds and it stops again. After a few times of pressing the clutch up and down, it'll finally start. Really baffled at the moment.

it sounds kinda like this, where I have to keep pumping the clutch to get the motor to turn.
