There are some monsters brewing in the land o S2K. Well compared to you guys I'll only be a mini, mini monster, but I'm excited with my little project too.

Pulled the head off and found out why it was pumping oil like crazy... the piston walls are scored, and are are the pistons. Now I need new pistons.. arghh.. go go credit cards! <credit cards comes out of hat>

The guy who built the engine apparently didn't know that forged pistons can't use the stock piston to wall clearance.....

Anyone wanna buy a supercharger? Anyone wanna donate?

I contacted BlackS2000Turbo who I had heard mention he had a set of 9:1 compression pistons. He is going to overnight his set of pistons to me and we are going to go with his. At least I get the compression ratio that I wanted, a sleeved block.. finally things are getting done, and right! If we can get the new block to the machine shop with the new pistons on tuesday, assembled on Wednesday, back in on Thursday, we can be running on Friday/Saturday of next weekend. Hows that for an optimistic schedule?

Chris

PS: I created a new photo category on my awesome (gag) website showing my cylinder walls, and pistons.

Funny thing is that Larry (BlackS2000Turbo) said that JE told him he didn't have to bore out the block with these pistons.. doh! Take that advice and this is what happens.

Wow, Chris you have more patience than I. I would have gone crazy a long time ago. The results will be worth it, though.

But how can you bore the cylinder walls? Don't they have that special Nickel coating on them?

The service manual has details on how much you can bore the stock walls.. I don't know that much about the stock block to besides that it's fiber reinforced aluminium.... and what it looks like with big gouges in the side.

i don't believe honda uses nikasil on any current motors; like the now-defunct h22a4, the s2k motor does use FRM sleeves (fiber reinforced metal, how very descriptive), but it *can* be honed and bored per the service manual.

there has been a lot of talk about the incompatibility of aftermarket forged pistons with frm sleeves. some is heresay, but we have a couple guys on preludeonline.com who claim to have properly rebuilt motors with forged pistons that scored the stock frm walls in almost no time at all. when i built up my prelude bottom end, i have the block sleeved because i didn't want to find out the hard way whether it was really true or not.

has anyone on here run a forged aftermarket slug (wiseco, je, etc) in their stock f20 bottom end?

Are the 9:1 pistons overbore? And if so can you order stock sized pistons with a lower compression ratio?
