Default Steering hum

Recently, I've noticed a humming/whining noise coming from the front of my car when slightly turning at low speeds. If I'm parked and turn the wheel slightly from side to side it makes this noise as well.
I know it's not the diff, as this happens when not moving, plus it isn't when turning the wheel all the way. I'd say I turn it less than 90 degrees every time, and it's only while the steering wheel is in motion, meaning the noise occurrs while I'm turning the wheel and re-centering it, but not during the turn.
Humming/whine sound, coming from front of car.
Any ideas?

Power steering in the S2000 is electric motor assisted. Sounds like yours is making some noise. I know mine is dead silent, don't know if the noise is a sign of impending failure. If it bothers you, have it looked at and/or replaced.

Sounds more like something needed greased, like when you open a squeeky door that has rusted hinges or something. Also, only does it for the first bit of turning the wheel.

Listened to it outside of the car today. Sounds like it's coming from the driver's side front wheel. What in there would rub and squeek when turning? I'm assuming it's something that needs greased, I just don't know what to grease.

you cant grease anything on the s2. try having someone in the car turning the wheel and put your finger on each ball joint and the outer tierod. you should be able to feel the vibration from whatever is dry. if you find it you can poke a hole in the boot and spray wd 40 in it. it will make it go away for a little while plus then you know what it is.

a good thing to do , is get the vehicle in the air and turn the wheel, and see if weight being on that side of the vehicle also causes the noise, if its in the air and no noise? maybe it has to do with suspension/bump stop/ duno, I had the same problem in a rsx , and once it was in the air, it was fine, I ended up turning the coil spring on the strut tower to fix the problem. So get the vehicle in the air and turn and see if the noise exist, and go from there.. I had a problem like that in my 05 mustang gt, and we ended up replacing a LSD clutch for the rear end and a new steering rack and pump.
