Default Steering is notchy at center when car is cold

Hi,

I'm sure i've read about this issue somewhere before but for the life of me i cannot find the thread.

A couple of weeks ago i noticed my steering has developed a strange feeling whilst cold. Best way i can describe is that the it has developed a dead zone when centered of about 5 degrees in both directions. Very noticeable when stationary however once i get moving and do a few swerves it seems to resolve itself.

The car is an AP1 with 192K on the odo and has 255s up front.

Any suggestions on where to begin looking would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like EPS motor. Other than replacing it, I know of no testing procedures. Will check Service Manual.

Thanks for locating that thread for me!

I'll give it a go and hopefully the sensor just needs to be re-greased.
