You can probably pick up a used radio control for $20 or so ?
I have found a control panel on Ebay for £30, so not too bad. I think I'll buy it, test it so I know what is wrong with mine, then if I can fix mine I'll post exactly what to do.

Modify's post says that it's a surface mounted transistor that gets fried when it gets grounded. Most likely you won't be able to replace that unless you are skilled with a fine-tipped soldering iron or are willing to try using a heat gun or toaster to reflow the entire board. You'll still need to determine the type and the pin orientation of the original transistor.

There are three transistors on the board, removing/replacing the culprit looks doable to me. However, purchasing the replacement component could prove difficult, as the only markings I can see are JR 37 on one of the transistors and AKD on the other two. Sadly, as yet, I can find no reference to these markings.

I have bought the replacement board I found on Ebay, so when it arrives I will test it and see if I can fix the original board.

That is so comprehensive. Thank you very much. I love to know how to fix things rather than just replace it. I knew if I did some digging someone would know a bit about it, but to get something so comprehensive is beyond my expectations. Thank you all for your help.

Is 2SA1162 suitable? It is listed as a "similar part" to ECG2409. Please see http://www.digikey.co.uk/product-sea...yWords=2sa1162
