Hopefully you'll be able to help me or give me some pointers? I went to have a look at an S for my gf yesterday and it is in great condition. It has done 55k miles, but that doesn't matter to us as it's been motorway miles, but there is one slight issue.

When the car was running, there was a hissing noise, sort of like gas escaping, coming from near the top of the engine. I'm no mechanic so sadly I can't be too descriptive. It was intermittent, I'd say probably every 20 seconds or so it made the noise. I spoke to a mate and he was wondering if it could be to do with the gases in the air-con system and maybe a leakage there? I did a search on the forums and found stuff about leaky head gaskets, but that was it. We both drove the car and I gave it a good thrashing and there was no noticeable problem. There was no hint of any smoke out the exhausts either.

The guy at the garage said he'd get it all sorted, but I was curious to see if anyone may know what it is so when we go back on Saturday to have another look if it is fixed I can question him and see what he says.
