Hmm I still want to solve my subframe mystery. Once again, my 2 subframe bolts at the very front are both 21mm (left and right), rather than 19mm or 17mm as previously mentioned. Any ideas why?

And I received the #10 bolt from Honda (https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/760...way-to-remove/) and it looks NOTHING like the one on my car. My car's bolt is fat and short and 21mm, and the one I got from Honda is skinny and long and 19mm with smaller threads???

Also one of the bolts would "feel" tight when tightened, but with a gap still between it and the car, and it would still turn if you apply lots of torque making a loud metal on metal creaking noise.

Does anybody know what the heck is going on? I've been wondering about this for years.

HELP!! PLEASE!!

Maybe it's been tapped before and fitted with another bolt?

They're listed as M14 bolts which have 19mm heads (JIS). It's possible that your bolts were replaced with M14 ANSI/ISO bolts which have 21mm heads.

I didn't read the post above, so this might not explain your problem, but it is related to Stratocaster's 19mm bolt head size issue. Pictures for your issue might help.

The bolt is listed as 'BOLT, FLANGE (14X130)', which is 14mm diameter and 130mm long. What are the diameter and lengths of your bolts?

Ok update... Thanks to Ballade Sports, I finally know what happened with my front subframe bolts. There are 6 subframe bolts for the front, 3 on each side. The two bolts in the front were verified to be non OEM and the two bolts in the middle turned out to be for the front. So they took out the two non OEM bolts in the front and put the ones in the middle in the front. The left side was fine but the right front bolt wouldn't go in correctly because the non OEM bolt which had a different thread messed it up. So we decided to put the non OEM back in the right front. They happened to have two middle subframe bolts for the left and right middle. So now, the only wrong bolt is the right front.

I still really want to get the correct OEM bolt to thread into the right front though. One proposed idea was to cut a hole to get a nut onto the other side. Or retap it?

Thanks! The non OEM bolt with the 21mm head is about 90mm long and the threads are coarser than the OEM threads.

Will Time Sert work? Does the subframe bolt screw into a nutplate? How can I fix this?

This is a picture of a cut S2k front part of the chassis, used in a build.
I do not remember if this build was on S2ki or somewhere else.
Anyway, it shows the nut in the frame.

If the non OEM bolt tightens and becomes flush with the frame, I would stop thinking about it and leave it.
With retapping you only remove material, it could make it a weaker thread.
