Default Super Stiff Clutch

Hello Guys,

Hope all is well. I have recently purchased a used S2000 S2004 model. It has 100k miles on it. First thing I noticed was that the clutch was WAY heavier than my Civic 2008 Sedan.

So far the clutch seems to be grabbing fine. Never really had it slip on me before, unless I am being lazy. Does this mean that my clutch pedal needs adjusting? or perhaps there is an aftermarket clutch that the previous owner put on? There is no way of myself contacting the previous owner as this car has switched hands twice. How do I check if the clutch has been replaced by an aftermarket one?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,
Henry

You might want to check the clutch master cylinder and see if it is leaking. Go inside the car and look and feel the carpet under the clutch pedal, like ontop of the dead pedal and directly below the clutch. Also look at the piston where the shaft from the pedal goes into it. If there is fluid there then most likely it is leaking. If so replace the CMC.

If it is not leaking then you might want to drain and bleed the system anyway. If it has 100K on the car I would bet it hasn't been changed before.

You can search for DIY on both of these.

I actually replaced my CMC and did the above at the same time.

i don't know about the ap2 but the ap1 clutch is much heavier than the average late model honda car.

i know the RSX clutch is ultra light compared to the ap1 clutch.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I try replacing the clutch fluid. This started being a concern for me as I noticed my clutch foot would start aching from pressing the pedal too hard, due to the stiffness of it.

Bests,
Henry

how big is the grab point? if it's very small and very grabby, it's probably an aftermarket clutch. mine came w/ an act clutch and the pedal is very heavy compared to stock.

Hello there.

I would say the grab point is slightly smaller than my Civic Sedan 2008, but hard to really say.

Thanks for responding.

Bests,
Henry
