Default suspension gurus...

basically on this site, i've read

koni yellows offer very little benefit if not worse than stock shocks? TRUE or NOT?

you can go lower on coilovers but not a spring & shock combo? This does not make sense... so i would like somebody to clarify. TRUE or NOT?

i basically want to go with espelir springs on KONI yellows but after reading all of that, why change the if they're worse than stock or will still blow and handle like shit. Those springs have a low drop to them... if that s2000 will handle worse (even with those KONI shocks) OR even blow, i might as well save my money...


In Conclusion: I want to ride with KONI YELLOWS and ESPELIR ASD Springs. I want to be low, not blow shocks, and still handle like stock OR BETTER.

i too am interested. I just bought mine a week ago and would love to get rid of the wheel gap. I'm thinking about Espiler on factory shocks.

my friend has espilers on his 03 and they ride pretty good, still on stock shocks, and they drop it really good, no wheel gap at all with 16's,

I already answered the 2nd question. you can go as low on a spring/shock combo as the shocks will allow. The problem is, most shocks are not designed to be lowered much, but some are and can handle the dynamics. For example, koni yellows might have tolerance down to 2.5" lowering or so (pulled that out of my ass).

Koni yellows probably offer little to no benefit when matched with a random spring. the stock shocks are perfectly valved to match the weight of the stock springs and are very high quality to boot. Having never driven an S2K lowered with the combo you're referring to, I can't site concrete experience, but I imagine you won't see increased handling.. but it won't go down the shitter either.

You can find the specs for the koni yellows on the site, including lowering tolerances, max spring rates etc. This will tell you if they are designed to handle the setup you're looking to employ.. but this doesn't mean you will not blow them I've blew 3 koni yellows on my 84 GTI in 25k miles (operating them within spec.. albeit near the limit) before I switched to custom koni setup.
