The type of driving has much to do with how long you should go between changes if you're not using emperical data from a UOA. If you drive many freeway miles and do not just drive your car to the corner store and back, you can go longer between changes versus that driver who does run to the market and back and lives in VTEC while doing it.

How you drive is nearly as important as how far you drive.

The color of motor oil has very little significance as to whether or not it's at the end of its life. If it looks like chocolate syrup, that's one thing, but golden brown like iced tea is perfectly fine. My Castrol Syntec looks like this after 4500 miles.

Well since i am putting down 412rwh and i race all the time I will change mine every 1,000 miles. I am hard on my car and i regularly shift at 9,000rpm at 17psi..
