Default lets talk oil changes

I have searched and came up with some decent info, most of which is burried in an off topic thread. And mostly track guys arguing with street guys arguing with purests and so on. That said, i'd like some opinions from those with the same goals/uses for our s2000s

Simple discussion here.

-What oil do you use?
-what is your change intervals?
-how many track days max?

Goes without saying use of companies like blackstone labs for oil analasis is ideal and the best way to know, however i feel there are likely some "defaults" for lack of a better word when it comes to when most feel its nessecary to change their oil.

That said im going to be running amsoil signature series 10w30. I was hoping to get a few thousand miles and a couple 2/3 day events out of each change. Basically doing 2 oil changes a year (car is driven march/april-october/november)

i'd like to know if thats would be a acceptable thing to ask of this product. It claims 25k oil changes and from what i gather on a prius it might. But on a s2k keep it under 10k or more ideally to manufaturer specs (around 6k i believe) now track abuse adds a whole other item to be factored into the equation.

What are your feelings? What do you use and what is your maintenance cycle look like.

Pennzoil Ultra 5w40.
Occasionally run when it's colder, and wanted some protection from typical S2000 viscosity shear down. Highly thought of oil on BITOG.

Changed about every 2-3 track weekends. Strictly track driven car

Amsoil Dominator 10w30 for me. Great oil, but it lacks the detergents, so avoid heavy street use and extended change intervals.

I change the oil every 2-3 days on track, regardless of mileage.

Amsoil signature is damn fine oil. However, I wouldn't even dare try doing 25k on a car that sees track or any type of hooning.

Best thing to do is a used oil analysis. Im gonna say 5k and 3 track days will be ok.

I'm on 8 track days with my motul 8100.
I did 6 and black stone said go more. I did 8 and they said it's ok. Now I am going to try 10. That's almost a year for me

I was not impressed at all with my UOA of 8100, so I am going to give Amsoil a try. That Penzoil ultra is tempting, it has great reviews, I would stick with 10w30 if I went with that though, no real reason, just my preference

I had okay results with Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic, except viscosity.

Only autocross and highway miles pulling a tire trailer on this sample.

I may try a different brand to keep the viscosity up.

It's all voodoo and witches when discussing oil.

Essentially run some sort of synthetic oil (pick whatever is on sale). I've seen weights of 5w40, 5w30, 10w30, 20w50, 0w40 used on this car.

Run oil for however long you want both miles and track days. Just make sure to check your levels.

When you do your oil change, send it out for analysis. They'll tell you if what you're doing/using is right or wrong - modify as necessary.

My own voodoo witch hunt practice:
-Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40
-6000 miles or 3 track days (which ever comes first)
-Change and replace with OEM filter

UOA with Blackstone has indicated my current practice is adequate. No shearing of oil, and no abnormal metal wear detected in oil samples.

Well said. There is no silver bullet, use good judgement and when in doubt just change the oil. UOA are cheap and once you get into the groove of doing it Blackstone et al will keep you supplied with tester kits.
