Yes, this is possible and actually has been done. Dont remember by who tho. What they did is mount the stock S2000 steering wheel onto a NRG quick release hub. The result was the wheel being about an inch closer to the driver. It involves modifying/drilling the steering wheel base frame (Behind the air bag) to allow to screw in the 6 bolts to attach to the hub.
