Default Terrible Whine/Reverse Trouble

After purchasing the S2k I have noticed 2 major things which concern me.

The first would be an extremely LOUD gear whine. With the top up there is an unbelievable amount of noise on acceleration or cruising in any gear. It is loud to the point where conversations are at the same volume top up or down. The only time this noise quiets is when I engage the clutch and get off the gas. If I simply decelerate (without engaging the clutch) it actually gets louder.

The next problem is it seems, no matter warm or cold my transmission HATES reverse.
I push 'down' on the gear lever move to the right and try to pull down into reverse but it takes INCREDIBLE force. It does not matter if I go from first or third to reverse, it does not want to go in.
I actually have to use 2 hands to get it in (which I know is terrible).

Strange thing is that the car shifts perfectly smoothly in every other gear (first can be a little rough, just like any other manual). Even in high rpms, it is very very smooth, and very very LOUD.
It seriously sounds like a jet engine in my car (and no it is not the engine or exhaust ).

I am very distraught as this is a new (to me car) with NO warranty, and if I cant shift into reverse I am not going to be a happy camper.

BTW it is a MY01

there's couple thing you need to check

1)diff

on the diff, change the oil and see if the noise will go away. very expensive bill btw

2)trans

a)on the trans, the first thing you need to do is check the oil level, since you can't really do that then it's a good time to change it for good. your sycro will hate to forced into gear with no oil, the reverse is a straight cut gear so go figure.
make sure you use the right weight of fluid(honda=reinforced 10w30, while some toyota likes to use 75w90 for gear box).

for short go buy 2 bottle of new honda MTF or GMSMFM

check and see how many qt you can drain out.

b)depends on the year, you might have a bent shift fork problem if the previous owner drives like a drifter.

c)take out the shifter and regrease the ball and socket, check for broken end cap(the only plastic cap on the shifter end)
