Default test pipe

removing cat and replacing with comptech double bung straight pipe tomorrow.
with S/C i melted original #2 O2 sensor after 3 mos, incinerated/decapitated the replacement O2 sensor after 4 days, and now have check engine light after 70mi of mostly non VTEC driving while bedding in new clutch on 3rd replacement O2 sensor.

any pearl and pitfalls appreciated regarding going to test pipe. i will install with a plug
or dead O2 sensor and inspect the recently presumred demised sensor tomorrow, possibly check codes.

with O2 sensor out, ecu deaults to static rich mixture, any possibility of running lean.
can a new O2 sensor work with test pipe, doubt it as reading prob sets off code and default. is my cat plugged or melted?will inspect tomorrow. who makes air-fuel meter that will read off sensor fitted to testpipe #1 bung. will i get more horsepower or more horseshit from going to test pipe.

nb; when O2 sensor fails and check engine light illuminates, i cannot feel any loss of drivability or power loss.

ps. drove the new Maserati with servo clutch manual gearbox today, had comfy seats.

thanks

if you want to run a test pipe, best suggestion would be to use an aftermarket ECU that can ignore the secondary O2 sensor.

SfphinkterMC-Are you the one with license plate BLWNS2K ? If it was you , service people at Woodland hills Honda were saying that we had identical plates BLONS2K(BLWNS2K was my first choice).

When my O2 sensor went out it was because the inside of the cat had seperated itself from the outside casing and had damaged the sensor. I know of at least one other person who this happened to who is SC'ed as well...so you may find this to be the problem.

Wesmeister,

thanks, i've repeatedly asked them to check cat, but they like the quick buck of slappin' in new 02 sensor.

so 02 sensor will be fine as long as cat is holding up with supercharger?
how long has your replacement cat and sensor lasted?

Happened last October. Probably around 8K miles.

Try removing the fuse for the ECU backup power (under-hood). On other Hondas this will prevent check engine codes due to a test pipe or hollowed cat. You will still need a functional O2 to be installed in the bung (if not it WILL give a code) but with the fuse out the ECU will not "remember" the poor emissions on the next drive cycle and think all is well.

This will also be of benefit in keeping the ECU from "remembering" the modified fuel mapping with an FPR, AFC, or other adjustments.

I have been told that the test pipe will not cause a code unless you drive a long ways without ever speeding up or slowing down for it to do a test? Is this true
