Ehhhhh?

Removing a performance enhancing modification to tune a non-performance mod?

The smell isn't that bad but it is there. I have no doubt that my CAT did it's job. I like the power I have with the TP though and my MPG seems to be a little better... I have been getting 25MPG and that is with a heavy foot and in the city (was getting just under 24MPG).

It seems that with a CAI and a TP that the engine should probably be tuned for the higher flow. It may not need it but it seems like it could help. What do you guys think?

I installed the ani-fouler. The come in a pack of 2. You frill out the first one with a 1/2 inch drill bit. The O2 fits perfect and I have gone over 100 miles without a CEL. I have seen some people use a single longer anti-fouler but i couldn't find one like that.

Are you saying VAFC (vtec air fuel controler) is not a performance mod???

A'PEXi has done it again with the release of the VTEC AFC (V-AFC), a piggyback fuel computer for VTEC engines. The V-AFC and the original Super AFC share similar fuel tuning capabilities with one big exception--changing the VTEC engagement point. The V-AFC is a very potent tuning weapon for enthusiasts utilizing performance camshafts in their VTEC engines. One of the common downfalls of VTEC performance camshafts is the dip in the powerband due to early engagement of the VTEC effect. By utilizing the V-AFC, you can eliminate the "dip" by engaging the VTEC later in the rpm, resulting in a smooth curve.

Here is a question for some of you who have done this before. Now that I have better flow at the intake and less restriction on the exhaust, should the engine management be adjusted to take advantage? Maybe a VTEC controller to bring on VTEC 500-1000 RPM earlier? Any suggestions? What is the next logical engine mod (aside from FI)?
If you want to do it the right way....

It isn't cheap, but it is... the best.

Says who?

I talked to an AEM rep a little while back and they said they're not even thinking about it.

You didn't say VAFC. You said VTEC controller. I say VTEC controller alone is pretty unnecessary, and there are crap loads of them out there and they're gimmicky. The VAFC would be better, but you may as well sink your cash into a better option if you don't already have the unit.

If there was power benefit to simply reducing the VTEC engagement point on the S we would've seen it set at that reduced point from the factory with no additional cost to Honda.

There is definitely a power benefit to lowering the stock Vtec point. With gas mileage the main concern on this car for "joe smoe", they want it as high as they can get it to avoid Vtec for daily driving. I think its safe to say this about all of the performance Vtec's that honda makes, Type R's aside. Of all the civics, integras, and S2k's I've seen dyno'd, including my own, they all benefited from lower Vtec points.

Hondata's reflash for the S2k:

reflash for TSX:

... obviously these reflashes aren't just vtec changes, but tunes aswell, however you can't deny the benefit of the earlier change over point.

Throw a header and exhaust into the picture and the results are 2 fold.
