I have never taken apart a Filtech, but this is why I avoid them. Where is it documented to be well-built?
Surprice... surprice.. on s2ki
And guess where.. in the stickies on top of UTH.
Unbelievable huh

He actually sacrificed a new! Toyo Roki 15400-PCX-004 to show us the (non existing) differences between the Filtech and the Toyo Roki.
Well.. only a 2 hole difference in the base plate.

The whole oil filter discussion started when people found non Toyo Roki 15400's.
And one could take it a couple of steps further and discuss the meaning of "synthetic" filter media as well, just like many do when it comes to engine oil.

Talking about oil: flyingtoaster, what oil do you use and why?
And tell the truth!

Thank you for the source on Filtech filters. I was worried about their quality because of the study done in 01 by NTPOG, but 90CRVTEC cut them both open at a later date. I have a Firefox bookmark to replace now.

Why does it matter what oil i use?

Citation/support? At least qualify exactly what you mean by "best". In what ways is it better than the competition?

I think the why matters more than the oil itself. There's not much meaningful "why" in these sorts of discussions. Typically brands are thrown around for reasons that have little to do with actual real world performance.

If OEM is better why do people use fram? Fram must be best!
cause the guy said "oh i think the K&N works better but i use the oem one" so i was like huh?

Just anwer the question
What oil & why?
It's not a secret.. is it?
It has nothing to do with what oil filter you use.. and everything to do with what oil filter you use.

I bought the car at 21k and now I'm at 48k. My fills were RP 10w30, 3x Castrol Edge 10w30, and my current is PU Euro 5w40. I go to a small track once a week and consume less than half a quart between fills. My engine seems very healthy and it dynoed 212, even before I replaced my rectifier and plugs (butt dyno picked up a few). I am more interested in oil filters than oil because most off the shelf oils seem to get decent UOAs.

Its not hard to find and compare oil specs, UOA's, ect. while it is close to impossible for the general public to really compare oil filters.
I mean, what's the pressure drop over the filter, what's the max flow rate through the filter, what's the flow rate through the bypass, at what pressure difference opens the bypass?
IMO those (and maybe more) specs I think are important oil filter specs.
No manufacturer will tell and no enthusiast will ever be able to find out for themselves.
Sure, we can open-up oil filters and compare the construction and materials, that's like opening oil bottles and compare bottles, caps & labels.
While the chemistry of oil is a trade secret, what that chemistry leads to is easy to find online or to get tested yourself, like HTHS, ACEA/API qualification, Noack, Visc @ 40C / 100C, VI, (if you're lucky type of base stock.

Oh well....

Funny thing: I've tried to find a MSDS of your Pennzoil Ultra Euro and was redirected to the Shell website, but I could not find it.
Depending a little on how hot it is during those track day's a xxW-30 will work just as fine with the advantage of some more rev happiness compared to a 5W-40.

I assume you were looking for the Technical Data Sheet, if so here you go:

http://www.epc.shell.com/Docs/GPCDOC_X_cbe...01003192149.pdf

I also found MSDS, but Shell's database has been on the skids for the past few weeks and wasn't able to pull it up. I can link you if you'd like.
