Default ticking?

Hi guys i got a 2002 s2k and i love it...126k miles had her since 2010 but ex wife cracked the head while i was deployed and warped the cams bad. Finally out (disability) and got her running again well now it occasionally stalls...won't go past 7k rpms until fully warmed up and for this annoying ticking/rattling sound under the hood....can't pin point what it is plus keep getting p1457 as a code. ...any ideas

What happened when your ex-wife cracked the head? What did you do to fix it? New head and cams? Think p1457 is an emission code. Sounds like you may have several issues.

Yeah, sounds like the car needs a good tune-up. Valve adjustment, spark plugs, maybe oil change, air filter. Usual doo-dads. Then, see what happens.

Good luck!

PS: That ex-wife must have been a doozy. Never heard of bent head and camshafts in one of these cars.

I would be inclined to think the ticking is the timing chain tensioner...

...

Thank god she is your ex. Good for you.

Not revving past 7k until fully warmed up is perfectly normal. That is the computer cutting fuel so you don't run a cold engine too hard.

1. Ticking could be loose valves, also could be Timing chain tensioner. Does it sound like a card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel?
2. p1457 is an Evap leakage code
3. Not revving past 7k is normal. You don't want to run your car hard when it's cold. It's keeping you from damaging your engine.

My ticking was valves loose. Which is weird because these cars tend to make the valves tighter the longer they go.
