S2000maniac what do you think it is?

We'll see what happens after the valve adjustment. My mechanic said it doesn't sound like a rod knock or a main bearing problem because I've read in previous threads the main bearings can be the problem as well.

A mechanic's stethoscope is a very cheap tool, just about every auto parts store I've ever been in has them in stock, and it's about 400% more effective than a phone video posted to the internet.

Well, i just got the car back from the shop. Valve adjustment was done and the sound still is occuring. Good news is that my mechanic was looking at other parts of the motor and he said everything looked good. No bad bearings, or anything major like that. He told me i shouldn't really worry about the sound, everything seemed to check out good. Just the sound gets me worried, if anything i will just sandblast the worm on the tct. Anyone have a pic of the worm on the tct so i know exactly what to sandblast?

You should have had your mechanic do a compression test and leakdown if valve adjustment didn't stop the noise.

Could be a spun bearing. If it is it will get louder as time goes on. Is it VERY metallic? Can you hear it more on certain intake runners vs. others? Does it go up and down with revs and sound very metallic after you rev and it tries to settle idle?

If you have someone with a bore scope take a peak at the cylinder walls.

My mechanic told me all my bearings checked out good. After the valve adjustment, the noise became a lot quieter. When the motor is rev'd, it does tick with the rev. But it isn't that loud.

so your mechanic pulled your oil pan (which is a pain) and end caps on all your rods and checked your bearings? The fact that he told you not to even worry about it is just terrible.

the car didnt come that way from the factory with a loud metallic tick, therefore somthing is wrong.

sounds like a spun bearing to me. if the valves are set correctly and you ruled out the TCT, there are not many other things that can make that sound.
