Default Time to change the oil

I got my s2000 just 3 months ago,and its time to change the oil. My questions is should I change to synthetic oil? To the best of my knowledge the car has always used standard oil. Now the car is at 54k miles. I have heard that a change from standard to synthetic oil can cause leaks and gaskets may need to be replaced. was I misinformed?

Yes...you were

Lots of people run synthetic (me included). There have been thousands of debates on oil types/intervals, etc... I use synthetic w/OEM filter change every 5k or so. I get a oil analysis done to ensure I'm not stretching the life of my oil/filter. Thats the best way if you are really concerned with what you are putting in your car.

Honestly though, throw any oil in there, use a good filter and change every 3k and I'd bet a lot of coin that when soemthing starts failing on your car, it wont be oil related.

Just monitor your oil level periodically

And...your engine isnt the only thing that has oil in it

I dont see why not. Synthetic is typically a higher quality oil and will definately not cause any adverse issues with your engine.

As I said, MANY people run synthetic so its not like you are the first guy to do it

Only disadvantages I can think of is it will cost slightly more?
