Find another Honda dealer, they are incompetent.

There is no way being a LITTLE low on oil will cause noise.
my engine clicks, like 1-2 clicks per second when my oil is at L.

My car is very tempermental, but I can always replicate the TCT noise in this manner.

Drive the car, let it warm up. Turn the car off, turn the car on after about 10 minutes of sitting there. It always makes the noise that way.

Sometimes on start up it will do it, sometimes it doesnt. Also it has a tendency to do it more often when the oil is low. I have had both ntn1 and ntn2, both of them failed after about 6 to 8 thousand miles.

And I used Mobil One synthetic since my first oil change, and I have recently switched to non synthetic to test out the Mobil one theory. I just have to switch my failing TCT now to test it out.

This scenario is the only time I hear the tct noise although I don't hear it every time after a warm start. I have also had mobil 1 in the car since 10k. I now have 40k on the car.

I guess I should always spell it out

I mean TCT noise.

I've got a noise, and I am trying to establish whether or not it is the TCT. It sounds kind of like a small deisel engine, but more like rocks in a tumbler (if you've ever heard a rock polisher running).

It happens when it is cold. It does not occur while idling or under deceleration.

It does occur when accelerating. What's interesting is that the pitch (or frequency) of the noise seems constant. But, the volume of the noise seems to increase with the LOAD of the engine. The harder I accelerate, the more volume to the noise. Of course, there are other vibrations that occur, especially in the interior, under acceleration-- but this one is distinct and troubling.

Any ideas? Tonight, I will try the stethoscope on the TCT (although this may be problematic since the noise generally doesn't occur at idle). Any other ideas while I am at it?

Car: 2001 with 51,000 miles. Purchased in 2004 with 28,000 miles. Synthetic oil (AMSOIL and Mobil1) since.

I got that in 4th gear in my Accord. Only occurs when accelerating under decent load. I'm guessing tranny problems, but I'm not going to worry about it till it dies (since the Accord already has 185K on it anyway).
But, yeah... kinda sounds like tiny bits of gravel shaking around in a can.

Thumbs down

I'm pretty sure my TCT is going bad as Bill indicated last month. IFF I convince Honda to warranty it, do you think I can tell them to just give me the part and not do the labor so I can have Bill here install it? I mean, if anything, I'm saving them money from not having to do the free labor for me.

No, they won't do that.
Plus, if you don't have it installed by Honda, then it's no longer covered under warranty. So, next time it fails, it's out of your pocket.

Hehe, well I have less than 20k miles to go until I'll be out of warranty, so if it holds up for that long, it won't matter.

It's just that Bill painstakingly did the valve adjustment for me last month. Would reinstalling the TCT risk screwing up the valve clearances? Would it screw up anything else? The mechanic I use at the local dealer is a pretty competent guy, but I trust Bill more since he's had more S2000 time and has more attention to detail.

No effect on the valve adjustment.
