A local member (randyb239) on the forum broke a rocker arm on the #2 cylinder about a week ago.
We are going to be removing the head to inspect for damage to the piston/valves tomorrow morning (early). So far we are going to be sending the head to the machine shop, and replacing broken parts (rocker arm). He ordered replacement HG, I think valves for that cylinder, and retainers.
Any special tips anyone wants to share for getting the job done?
I have all the tools, torque wrench, wrenches/sockets, assembly lube, helms manual.
If we are able to keep the timing chain from moving, can we skip the setting the timing part? I have never looked or worked on the s2000 engine other than a valve adjustment. I worked on prelude/accord engines quite a bit though.
You will be the one removing the the cams and rocker assys to access the head bolts. The only thing left for a machine shop will be valves, springs and retainers, among other general inspection.
You can save yourself alot of work by leaving the intake in place. There's so much attached to it, it will stay right where it is. you can use a bungie cord to pull it toward the drivers side about 1". Very easy.
Another tip: take a rubber band, pull the chain all the way up, and put it around the guides. It will help tremendously when reinstalling the head, laying the bead of silicone, plus it is very easy to break the guides if you touch them with the cyl head when lowering it down.

How did he break a rocker?
Most likely using the car to its fullest potential is what broke the rocker...
He was driving on 75 at 'cruising' speed, and said out of nowhere, it made a few weird sounds (like a turbo rotory) and then shut off. It wouldnt start back up. It was then towed to Bradenton Honda, where they said the cyl 2 has no compression. They wanted 500 to take off the head.
Since it has no compression, I am guessing that means a piece of metal may have made it into the cylinder, and bent the valve a little since all the valves are still chilling in the retainers.
This car is usually using up all 9k+ of the rev range, and has seen its fair share of drifting events. I would say that staying in the high revs most likely weakend the rocker, and it finally bit the bullet.
Thanks for the picture... leaving the intake on sounds like an AWESOME idea. Can you get to all the bolts for it from the top or do you have to get a few from the bottom?
Just trying to get all mentally prepared so it'll go quickly.
I've done that to my car at over 60 miles per hour more times than I can count. There's quite a few vids of it too out there somewhere. I've got 78k miles.....how bout him?

Including the pic on the bottom... going into a swamp, getting pulled out and then drifting more? Not sure how many miles his has.
I dont doubt that you beat on your car, but if you keep up with him, then I guess I dont have to worry about any problems with mine. We kept wondering why his rear diff and tranny are fine when other people have problems.
The car should be arriving in an hour or so. Fun part will be pushing it up the driveway and then up on the ramps.

I'm not buying the weakened rocker. I run my car hard all the time, as do many others.
If you only knew.... hahaha. Randy, also known as "Swamp Thing" (use your imagination), is known for the quote, "I bought the car to enjoy it; if it breaks, I'll fix it." This car has seen more than you can imagine. Take aero's word for it
