I don't consider the people that work at a tire store "mechanics."

Technicians at BEST.

I have had them mount directional tires on the wrong way, asymentriclal tires on backwards. Basically, anythign they can screw up, they have. Gotta watch them like a hawk AND doublecheck their work.
amazes me how these people keep their jobs

Same thing happened to me. I went back, they fixed it. I didnt eat any ass.

What makes you think you should get half off after they fix their mistake?

I would think that since he has to go through the trouble of going back and having them do the job right, he should at least be entitled to some compensation. I am not saying how much, just that he should get something back.

This has happened to me and my friends more times than I want to remember. Just be glad that they didn't damage your rims in the process. I've received 4 new rims (on 3 different occasions) from shops because they damaged mine. Also, I would be surprised if the shop offers more than an apology and a fix. The time that you have wasted has little bearing on the situation because you have not incurred an actual loss (damage).

Don't get me started on the shop that insisted that I gave them the wrong springs to install onmy wife's Mustang. They were OEM springs and their Mustang "specialist" was trying to fit the front springs in the rear .

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
BTW, you should never put the spare tire on the rear (see owners manual). I hope you don't have differential/LSD damage as a result.

you have to watch them.

one place didn't balance my tires and i drove off...then remembered they forgot to balance.

another place wouldn't use a torque wrench to torque my wheel bolts because "torque wrench is only for porsches...not necessary for honda's"
