Default Toda Spec B

Has anyone tried these camshafts yet? I was wondering if you absoultely HAVE to HAVE the toda high compression pistons? I know you need high compression to make good use of the camshafts, but do they have to be toda pistons in order to make adequate valve clearances? The toda pistons are so pricey .

I don't expect that you have to buy Toda pistons, but you will need pistons with bigger valve reliefs than stock. Otherwise, you'll have valve-to-piston contact. From what my builder said, the clearances are already pretty tight with the Spec A's.
Are you going with the Spec B's? If so, what supporting mods do you have? I think everyone will be interested to hear the results from these cams.

ive called toda before they basicly told me spec a will work well with a simple I.H.E set up and can run off a vafc but the spec b and c need a fully programable engine mangement unit and as mxt 77 said some kind of piston with more valve releif. so weather you use todas or some one elses you should be ok as long as you have more valve relief. On a side note for street cars the Toda pistons have a very high 13:1 compression ratio which shouldnt be used with 93 octane, the guys at toda said they were using 100 or 104 octane in their race car that is making 297ps NA! Hopefully this winter ill be able to pick up a set of the spec C cams and an EMS for my new motor.

Thanks guys. Well it doesn't seem like anyone out here really mods their S2000 besides supercharging. I've always been an all motor junky and i had toda spec b's in my previous GSR running 11.8:01 compression on 91 octane. I was considering doing the i/h/e first and then thinking about cams. I was looking at the specs from the spec b/c's and it looks like there should be a pretty good increase in power in the low/mid range with the proper set up. If you look at the primary and secondary lobes, they're much larger and almost as close to the same lift as the vtec lobe, which is why i'm assuming you need a standalone to tune the idle. With adequate compression, i think these cams will be an absolute blast.

Does anyone know who else makes aftermarket forged pistons for the S2000 and fits the stock rods?

I wouldn't expect to pick up any low-end power whatsoever with cams. However, you should be able to pick up some mid-range, similar to that gained by the Spec As. Here's a thread on my Spec A's w/ a dyno graph:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=168603
You can see I didn't gain anything until about 4500 RPMs.

Regarding your other comments... NA is just too expensive and doesn't provide large enough gains for most people. FI has a better "bang for the buck" value.

Interesting thread, i have jenvey ITB's on my car and a custome ECU dyno'd at 245 bhp, 165 ft/lb.

I have just agreed to buy some Toda Spec A's which will hopefully up this a little more.

i will post up before and after dyno results when they get installed
