Tranmission questions....
Ok so here are my questions:
1. I have a 2001 AP1 S2000. I am going to purchase a AP2 transmission soon because the tranny is starting to go bad. But I want to know will my current clutch, flywheel throwout bearing etc work with the new transmission?
2. My AP1 has the horrible clutch rattle (or whatever it is) and I want to know IF i can use the same clutch, flywheel throwout bearing etc setup, will I still hear the clutch rattle with the AP2 transmission?
3. When i let off the gas I get a jerking like you can REALLY feel one is letting off of the gas, is this because I have a 11lb flywheel now and whenever I let off the gas since it is lighter than stock it has a more sensitive feel?
thanks

1. As far as I know they will work. Of course, if there's anything wrong with them, you get to do the labor over again.
2. The clutch disk contributes to the horrible clutch rattle, but so does the transmission. The only way to know is put it together and see what happens. If it rattles, you get to do it over again with a new disk.
3. I don't know.

3. I don't know.
thanks...i hope the tranny is making more noise that anything. i have 10K on my entire clutch, flywheel, bearing setup right now. I would hate to have to get a new disk already..but I may just to be safe...i would hate to have to pull the tranny out twice in a week.
1. It should do, check with Honda first, don't take the risk.
2. You may as well replace the clutch whilst the gearbox is out, it just makes sense. Why go to the bother of removing it, hoping that the noise will go away...the noise is probably due to one of the associated clutch bearings.
3. My friend did this to his MX5 and the flywheel makes a horrible noise when he takes his foot off the pedal because it's lighter.
I usually go by the rule of whilst one big job is being carried out, see what else you can do. It'll save you time, money and reduce the risk of more maintenance.

the thing is that my current clutch, flywheel, throughout bearing, pressure plate assembly has 10K miles on it...no need to really swap. I just spent $1200 on everything 4 months ago. I would hate to spend the money again
if your clutch is engaging properly, you did a good job before i dont see why you'd have to change everything, but if you cant live with the lightened flywheel, you might as well change it abck to stock.
the lightened flywheel could contribute to the jerky off-throttle thing, because it has less rotational inertia it has less dampening.

I have the 8# Fidanza flywheel and my car never jerks. When you swap the tranny be sure and swap the shaft end that connects to the driveshaft, I do believe they are different, someone correct me if i'm wrong. I rebuilt my tranny with about $400 in parts(1-2 gear set, new syncros, seals and gaskets: rear main, throw out bearing and pilot bearing). If you need parts buy from Majestic Honda.com, they are the cheapest.
As far as the noise....that's the nature of the S
