Default tranny or diff whine

the whine is speed sensitive (higher pitch at 10mph than at 5mph), and it does not matter if i am in gear or not (audible if in gear or if in gear and clutch depressed or if in neutral)

car has about 6k miles, 2003.

i was thinking it might be the diff, so i changed the diff fluid but that did not affect anything.

thoughts?

TIA

mike

I got the same noise. take it to a good mechanic, have them put it up on a lift, start it up, and run it in gear, and have them use the stethoscope to locate the noise. this let us know what you find out.

no clicking noises, only the whine. i can't tell if its the tranny, prop shaft, or the diff.

Still under warranty, right? I'd take advantage of that.
