I apologize for cutting in on a post quoted to you RR. No disrespect intended.
Go right ahead, i don't own anything here - I think BG hypes a lot - they seem to have THE solution for everything, and they make complex issues simple*, so their answers are appealing to people with limited technical background. Some of the products are quite good, some iffy, and I have heard very pro and con on the SS - same as any other tranny fluid.
Two thoughts:
1) As gernby says, we beat ourselves to death on these topics. Find a good product from a reputable mfr and if it works for YOUR car, YOUR driving style, stay with it.
2) If your dealer recommends SS or any BG product, kerep your receipts and perhaps a picture of the display in their shop.
*Perfect example: MOA. Motor Oil Additive. This is sold on the "if some is good, more is better" model. It appears to be more of a standard oil's additive package. I suppose this would be good if you are adding it to old oil, but what isthe point on a fresh fill? Or what is the point on an old fill, as you could replace all the oil for the price of a bottle of MOA. Huh? Or, you could get a fill of synthetic. Double huh?
Plus, one is playing chemist with the formulations already carefully balanced by the mfr. If the MOA contains more ZDTP, it will likely push an SL-rated oil back a few notches, since it would exceed the limits that API set to protect the cats. And it is pricey, like all their stuff - I could probably find another oil additive with similar chemistry for less. And you know what your owner's manual says about oil additives....
I once "debated" a BG rep on a radio/cable TV talk-show, and it was pretty sad what this guy did not know about cars, yet his answer to every problem was "a bottle of 44K". It was like watching Michelangelo and the painter guy on PBS discuss art. I swear that if someone called and said he had an inoperable brain tumor, the guy would have suygested "a bottle of 44K".
