Indymac,

Could you remind us how to distinguish the "old" Honda MTF from the "new"? The packaging is different? Or they have different colored screw-top caps? Maybe their labels bear different dates or part numbers . . . ?

Thanks.

The new Honda MTF has a white bottle cap and a green label on a grayish silver bottle. The dealers may or may not still have some old stock that they would love to push on you. If you do a search for threads on the new fluid, you will find pictures of the new bottle. Acura dealers have the same stuff with a Acura MTF label on it, but I can't remember what they call it specifically.

Acura Precision Crafted MTF on pg 8 of this bulletin:

I changed my factory fluid (it may or may not have been the new Honda MTF) with the new Honda MTF and it shifts and feels great. I thought it shifted great before too though. The old fluid I drained looked perfect (no metel) with 19k on it. I plan to change my trans fluid with the new Honda stuff every 10-15k from here on out.

I do have a mild 4th gear whine that I need to have Honda check out but I am scared that if the open her up she will never shift as nice as she does now .

Save yourself some money all you need is a jack and a 17mm wrench and 2 quarts of what ever fluid you choose

...and a hand pump to get the new fluid in, and a new crush washer for the drain plug at least (same size as the oil drain crush washer).
