Default transmission grinding

I have a used 2005 s2000 w/about 14k Miles. When i first purchase this vehicle i notice that sometimes it seem like when i shift gears, the tranny seems to be grinding like metal rubbing against metal. It doesn't happen all the time but what i did notice was that it happens most time when the rpm is under 3000. I would like to know do any other s2k owner have similar problems or is this something normal?

metal to metal sound is not normal.

does it happen mostly from 1st to 2nd?

try to make sure the clutch is fully depressed before you shift out of gear...and when you shift out to neutral, wait 1-2 seconds for your layshaft to slow down a bit, and then put it into the next gear.

works for me.

I've noticed that shifting at lower RPMs sometimes feels more notchy until the car has been warmed up for a while.

For instance, shifting from 2nd at 3200RPM into 3rd gear will yield a notchy feeling shift. If I do the same shift, but perform it at 5700RPMs the shift feels much smoother even if I shift and clutch at the same rate of speed as the first shift.

This is transmission fluid independent, I've tried different types of fluids and I always end up with the same feeling on the car. I figured it was the double and triple cone synchros in the AP1s that caused them to be finicky at lower RPMs. Car shifts like a dream when I'm running it for all it's worth.

IIRC the AP2 has single cone carbon synchros...so I don't know why they might feel crunchy at lower RPMs.

I have the same problem with my AP1, I just bought it and 3rd gear is a little notchy..it's not grinding it's just a split second metal to metal feeling. I'm having one of the best honda techs in my area test drive the car this or next saturday I'll post the results

My transmission sucks when it's cold, new fluid or not. Eventually going to have Honda take another look.

Also have that on my AP1 as well. Do a search for 'third gear clip' or 'third gear notch' on here. There are tons of posts about it, most of the people that did have the car serviced still reported the problem afterwards. Good luck, let us know what the dealer says.
