I was changing my oil today and I noticed a bead of oil (as well a small spot on the ground right below it) where the tranny mates up to the engine. I touched it with my hand to make sure it was water but to my surprise it was definitely oil...
Here is a pic of where it was:


Here is a closer pic of where the bead was...as you can see from this picture I took it about 3 hrs later and another bead was already forming.


I searched and found this thread
( https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry7682174 ) and this seems to be my problem...in which case I need to take it in but I think my warranty just ended like 2 months ago...would the dealer still cover this repair?

It would be great to hear some feedback. Could this be anything else or is the rear main engine seal the general consensus?

Is it motor oil or transmission fluid? If its motor oil then yes it's your rear main seal.

i had some fluid dripping from the same spot u pictured, and it was a rear main seal problem

well i dont know how you would tell if its motor or transmission oil because i'm guessing mtf is kinda close to motor oil since honda recommends regular 10w30(i think? i dont remember now) as a "temporary replacement" in the owners manual.

my trans oil comes out gold when i do a trans fluid change.

It's either the trans input shaft seal, the rear main seal, the main oil galley plug, the oil pan or a Porosity issue with the block or trans housing.

It was definitely engine oil. I smelled it this morning. In that case I have to call Honda and see if they will cover. My car is 2 months out of warranty

Thanks for the input guys. Anyone replaced this by themselves? would you need some sort of special tool to drive the seal ?

You dont NEED the special tool to drive in the new seal, it just makes it alot easier and fool proof. You can always do the oldschool method of using a hammer and extension to put in the new seal, but u risk ****in up the seal or not seating it right.
