Default Transmission Problem

Want to see if anyone has any idea whats wrong with my transmission.

After track day, seems like the shifter is loose and can be wiggled with some play. And the shifter can be pulled out of gear with almost no resistance (or less resistance then before)

even when the car is not running, i can shift into gear without depressing the clutch.

Car is still drivable and while driving shifter doesn't pop out of gear it still stays in gear but it is just not as tight as before.

Any info would be appreciated.

Eddie

your car should go in/out of gear easily without the clutch when the car is off. If the gear teeth don't line up in the position that the shafts just happen to stop...it won't. But most of the time with the car off...you don't need the clutch.

If you're not putting much accel or decel load on the trans when the car is running, you can pull it out of gear easily without the clutch also.

Everything sounds normal except that you're saying it has more play than before...

Thanks for the quick input, B series.

Maybe i am just paranoid after track day,

but what i feel is that before when i'm driving 80mph the shifter in gear pretty good needing let's say 8/10 force to pull out of gear as of now it will need only like 3/10 and it will slip out of gear.

I don't force shifters out of gear but with this extra play it just seems that everything is loose now.

Any more info is appreciated,

Eddie

It shouldnt have taken THAT much effort to begin with. If anything, it works properly now.

^bad info. it depends on the engine load - if the engine is engine braking, it WILL be hard to pull out, vs if the engine is 'cruising' then it will pop out easily.

Its most likely in your head, OP.

I've only had my car for a few weeks (02 with 55k), but I don't think mine does that. I've seen this happen on other vehicles that have high miles and it is usually an indication that the throwout bearing is wearing. I can't really say if that is your problem or not. It doesn't sound like a major concern right now, just monitor it over the next while to see if it gets worse. It's not a critical issue either way IMO.

could be the start of possible syncro ring/hub failure.
