Default Transmission rebuild?

My car has a bad 1st and 2nd gear, or the syncros are just screwed up. Do you guys know how much it ussually costs to fix that...
I already have the transmission pulled so that work is done..

Should I take it to a dealer have them do it or any other recommendations.

More than it will be to buy a good used trany. The removal/install time is books out at 6.5 hour. The rebuild parts alone will be more than a used tranny. 1/2+Sync are sold as a set and list for over 500. labor will surely bring the job in at over 1k.

Good luck

I say rebuild. It costs a bit more, but it's new. Buying a used tranny is a good option, but there is chance you may need to "rebuild" it again.

i researched the same thing. ended up going with an ap2 trans. If you want i have an ap1 trans i would let go for very cheap with a high rpm 2nd gear grind. If you dont want to deal with the down time.

I havent decided to buy a used one or rebuild but how do I know what to order if I do rebuild. How do i know which is carbon and which is regular. Also what year does it start where they already have the carbon syncros in them.

The OEM replacement parts were updated for all years. So if you rebuild with new parts, you get that as well. All of the AP2 transmission have them. 04+

Thanks
