Default Are transmission synchros interchangeable?

I have an AP1 track-only car that intermittently refuses to go into 3rd gear. It's as if there is no gate for the shifter to go into. I have picked up a used AP2 transmission with a grind on the 3rd-->2nd downshift and my intention is to replace the 2nd gear synchro(s), then swap it into the track car. Unfortunately, Honda doesn't sell *just* the synchro -- you have to buy the whole 2nd gear gearset at a cost of about $280. You can, however, order the synchro for 5th-6th separately. My questions are:

1) would a 5th-6th synchro work as a replacement for the 2nd gear synchro?

2) would my AP1 2nd gear synchro work, if transplanted into the AP2 transmission?

Thanks!

Hey Bryan...not sure on 1)...but I know I have read on here that the ap2 synchros are not interchangeable on ap1 tranny. Obviously a few folks have thought about rebuilding the ap1 tranny with the ap2 carbon synchros.

ok, so making a frankenstein from the ap1 and ap2 transmissions is out. Anyone know if the synchro's are the same for each gear?

Nope.

"The use of double-cone synchronizers for first, third and fourth gears, and triple-cone synchronizers for second gear, helps reduce shift effort. Reverse gear uses single-cone synchronizers for smoother shifting and quieter operation."

FYI, Honda updated the AP1 parts to use the new syncros. So if you bought the parts today for an AP1, you get the updated syncros.

No, they are all differant. Sorry, that idea is out too.

Seriously?? I knew that the EU and JDM "AP2" with the F20C got an "AP1" tranny with carbon synchros. But you are saying that if I order AP1 sychros today, the part number will be different than it was back in 03?

That's really interesting info if so.

Bryan...if you order new synchros, let us know if the ones you receive are brass or carbon.

If I could just order a synchro, I wouldn't have posted this! You have to order the whole damn gearset at $280.

Damn, that sucks, cause the Japanese S2000 parts catalog lists the 1-2 synchros without the second gear, not sure why that is. List cost is about $235. (21,600 Yen).

Subscribed, I just destroyed the 2nd gear synchro on my 07 with only 27k on it =[, had a slave cylinder fail while in traffic, panicked and slammed it into any gear it would go into.
