Default Troubleshooting Path Validation

My 2007 S2k's SRS light is on with only 6500 miles on her. I have used the search function and found the way to reset the light. This fails and it ends with 2 blinks and returns to an on state. I have read the code as 1-1 repeated. This is the only code shown by the vehicle. This seems to be the drivers airbag.

If the above information is correct it seems that the coil spring may have failed. The horn does work as well as cruise control.

We did install a headunit with a Modifry controller last night. I am unsure if the SRS light was lit before that but I don't think so. No wires were cut as we used harnesses for the HU and Modifry controller. I do understand that the SRS controller is right under the headunit. Caution was exercised while we installed and tucked wires.

I did remove the battery and rejack the harnesses on the SRS controller, then attempted to clear the code. Same result 2 blinks and back to an on state.

Is there anything else that I should look at before I take the wheel off and begin testing the coil spring?
