is it true that if the steering wheel's off center
that a shop needs to put the car on the alignment machine anyway to straighten the steering wheel? i WISH i were a mechanic. 2 Honda dealers near me cannot get the steering wheel straight, ever. i don't understand how difficult it is to set the steering wheel straight and then let the alignment machine do its work.
i also don't appreciate it when they go for a test drive and tell me that the steering wheel is straight when it's 5 degrees off center, and they talk to me condescendingly. grr.
/end rant.

Centering the steering wheel requires adjustment of the tie rod ends and is best done on an alignment machine to make sure that your toe settings don't change. This should be a cake walk for any competent alignment technician.
