I used the Mobile 75-90 religiously for 93,xxx miles with about 350 auto-x clutch dumps with race tires and I never had a problem. I've broken axles but never a diff.

I retired the S2000 from auto-x duty about a year ago and have been off and on daily driving it. I just replaced my Mobile diff oil with some LE juice and about 10 days later, I sheared some teeth off the pinion... on street tires.

What the hell? I now have a new diff and I'm using Mobile again. Sure, maybe this experience was all coincidental but hey, the Mobile stuff never left me stranded. 10 days.... I just can't ignore that.

 

Do you honestly believe that 10 days worth of driving destroyed a "good" diff due to fluid? I think you were just lucky the diff lasted as long as it did

The LE 1605 is SAE110, I'm worry about that now. The only one that is SAE90 is LE 1604.

it's been posted that there are new SAE standards...whereby the old 90w is now rated at 110w...which makes 1605 the replacement, not 1604.

i want reassurance of this...hence the "where is road rage?"

 

What difference would it make? SAE is your reassurance, take it from them, they make the standards Roadrage doesn't.

Have you actually checked the data sheets for the "new" SAE110 vs the "old" SAE90? If you did you'd see that we're talking about variances that are so small as to make them nearly the same. There's a greater variance in comparing different brands of 5w30 motor oil than there is between the difference in thickness of the new SAE110 vs the old SAE90. Use either of them with confidence and quit whining.

Don't believe me? Check out the data sheets on LE's website for the 1605 and 607. The difference is .24 cSt @ 100C. That's a difference so small, only people on S2ki would ever waste their time posting about how much it worries them.

For what it's worth, M1 75w90 doesn't even come close to being anywhere near as thick as either of the two gear oils from LE. So if you've used M1 75w90 IMHO you're taking a larger risk than if you were to use SAE110 in place of SAE90 and worrying about .24cSt difference.
