Better to get it fixed for free under warranty than to wait until you have 50K miles on the car and it's doing it a lot more often....

As for the dealers not knowing about the TSBs, that is common. Most service shops see an S2000 once or twice a week, compared to dozens of Civics per day.

Okay here is my question to you all. I don't think I really have this problem. The first week I had the car I had the transmission pop out of gear on me twice, but that very well could have been my fault as I have not had it happen again since. Is it worth rebuilding the transmission on the remote chance it might happen again in the future?

So that being so, should I still try to get it done to prevent a possible problem in the future? What exactly do they change in this TSB? Anything else that is worth getting? (IE: Those AP1's with clutch buzz got a new clutch out of it.) It sounds like they are going to entirely replace 1st and 2nd gear? I got some time left on the warranty as the car only has 6,000 miles, but like an above poster has said I don't want to risk having the problem occur further down the road (even if its not doing it now). I'm assuming by the broad TSB (2004-2005) that theoretically all cars should be effected?

Thanks in advance for all replies,

- J

My 3-month-old 2005 S2000 with 1800 miles has popped out of first about 3 times. I figured I just hadn't pushed it in all the way, but am now wondering if I should contact a dealer about it. As has been mentioned, the trick is to be able to replicate it, which I cannot. But I do know it has happened

I just don't understand this. If Honda is aware of the transmission popping out of gear to the point of issuing a TSB, why don't they get it fixed with newly manufactured vehicles? I also have a three-month-old 2005. It hasn't popped out of gear yet, but it sounds like this is still a potential problem.

Isn't it more expensive for Honda to have to repair the transmission as opposed to having its transmission vendor get it right the first time?

If it is a TSB and not something unique to ourselves, do we still have to replicate the problem?

I would suggest that if anybody is having issues to report them right away just to establish with your dealer/service dept that you feel something is not right. A year ago, after driving my '04 S for 10K miles with an intermittent first gear popping out problem, Honda actually swapped out my tranny with a new unit so they could use mine to tear down and diagnose because a number of other owners were having similar problems. When the tranny in the S is fully warmed up and functioning correctly it is a pure delight to use. On the other hand it is also a delicate, temperamental transmission that is just not robust and far from the generally bulletproof typical Honda hardware IMO. Every car has it's quirks and in the S the tranny can be one of them.

So if its happened once or twice (early in ownership) is it worth trying to get the dealership to do it anyway? It seems to run very smooth now, but who knows with what you all are saying.

ok finally my car is in the shop, they said they will do some couple run and see if they can duplicate the problem. so when i was there i told them that my passenger roof buckle is loose and its driving me nuts and driver side cloth top seam ripped. and so everything else they will fix except the tranny. they said they will only fix it if they see the problem.
