Typical 4 cylinder missfire question
Bought a AP1 the other week when I was test driving it it was running fine. Got it home and engine managment light came on.
A friend came and pulled the codes and it was the 4 cylinder misfire and random misfire bunch.
The timing chain was a little loud so I took the TCT out and gave it a refurb which got rid of the noise. But I have a engine managment light on constantly and every now and then when I stop and say traffic lights when its on ideal the light will flash at me, and as soon as I bring on the revs it will stop. I have read that is because maybe its misfiring and damaging the CAT.
I can feel the car running a bit lumpy on ideal other then that it sounds and runs great. I took it to Honda and they tried throwing a £2000 bill at me for doing the TCT as they said to do that they would have to strip it down and might as well do the timing chain to.... so I asked for my keys back.
Its had new spark plugs, a oil change, TCT refurb, and I'm going to do a valve adjustment as soon as my gauges arrive.
I have heard lots of people saying about coil packs which I don't really know how to check and people saying about all sorts of sensores that I don't know where they are lol I'm no mechanic but want to do it myself and can get help from some friends.
I have had to drive the car a lot which isn't ideal but it hasn't been a problem at all.
Can anyone give me any tips without confusing me to much lol its done 80,000 miles don't smoke at all, burns no oil and is in bloody good condition so i really wanted to get it up and running
Thanks

As long as the misfiring is not constant and the service engine light is not flashing you should not damage the cat. If it were my car I would do the valve adjustment first. Then check the compression. If that is all in order then I would move on to the other misfire causes which seem to be either coils or injectors.
For what it's worth my '00 was making some popping noises in the exhaust at idle and even set the check engine light once. I sent the injectors in and had them ultrasonic cleaned and flow tested. After reinstalling them I have had no issues (3 years ago). It's not gonna work for everyone, but it worked for me.

If the misfire were just on cyl 4 constantly then you could try the trick of swapping the coil pack or injector from #4 over to a different cylinder and seeing if the misfire code follows the swapped component. If it does, then that component is faulty. If it doesn't, then you may have an internal issue like a valve problem, or it could be wiring to the coil or injector.
