underhood cardboard

Default underhood cardboard

does anyone know how to remove the plastic circles that hold the cardboard under the hood? i tried using a fork but no go. i don't want to break them.
what's it for anyway

Break them. They're like $0.50 each. It'll be cheaper than buying the tool used to remove them. The tool looks like a V shaped fork.

Why remove it? It protects against damage to the paint on your bonnet from engine heat.

i have dings on the hood. i was thinking maybe i can massage them out since they are really shallow.

Oh, now I understand. I thought you wanted to do away with it.

You can get those clips out with a lot of care but it is very uncommon not to break at least one. As kane.s2k said, they're cheap so simply get your dealer to order some in if not in stock.

I replaced mine at one stage and from memory the windscreen spray nozzles on the bonnet also come loose when you remove it.
