unfamiliar noise
I just bought this gorgeous '00 S2000 the other day and didn't notice anything until driving around today. I hear a slight noise under decelleration, at first i just thought it was the motor just doing it's thing no biggie.
but then idk it's so tight in the car it's hard to tell where it's coming from. Sounds like a lil buzz from the shift area maybe, and only under deceleration at low rpms (under 4k or so). I bought this damn thing bc i couldn't keep a reliable european car!
Hope it just needs a diff fluid change and that will solve the problem. It has 64k miles on it. I've been reading the FAQ on fluids but it is still unclear as to what i SHOULD use, all i've seen is what not to use (pilot, crv fluid). I just need to know what the best thing to buy is and if that's even it. BTW car drives and accelerates and everything else fine. Just that buzzin is the only thing. Thanks

You need to do nothing unless you really want to. The noise you hear is the typical deceleration "buzz" that most early model S2000s have. It is a vibration that starts in the transmission due to the characteristic backlash found therein. This vibration makes its way forward to the clutch disc and it is the disc springs that eminate this buzz. It is just a noise and has no adverse effect on the operation of the car. A change to a newer disc may eliminate the noise. Most owners just live with it until the clutch needs changing sometime down the road.
Changing the fluids on a new "used" car is never a bad thing, so go ahead and do it anyway just for good maintenance precaution. Don't expect the buzz to go away from a fluid change.

i thank you both for your replies and for sending me in the right direction for the "all your problems - solved!" thread! very very helpful and you have eased my paranoia some haha. thanks again
