Tonight as I was driving down the highway pretty fast (120 in 6th), the maintainence req'd light started flashing. So I started slowing down, and it stopped flashing when I got down to around 90mph. My car is completely stock. I have driven my car around 5k miles since I bought it and just changed the oil 2 days ago. I was under the impression that the maintainence required light would come on and stay on when there was maintainence required, not flash at me while I'm going 120.

Any thoughts as to why the light would flash at me, then stop shortly after?

The maint light is designed to come on every 7500miles. It will start to flash when it gets close to the mileage, eventually it will stay on constant once you reach about 7500miles.

By the way, it had nothing to do with the speed at which you were traveling.
