I'm trying to get the top hats off my front shocks and have ran into a problem. When I turn the nut, the bolt part spins too.

The shock assembly is off the car. I'm only using hand tools, with no spring compressor. Please help, I need my car to be back up and running asap.

 

You need to use an allen key on the top of the strut.

 

Thank you! I figured that out after I took a better look at it. I'm about to start the rears, hopefully they go smoother (I know to take the fuel pipe out).
