In the middle of installing some used Konis, and have no instructions. I just need to confirm, do I need to drill out the boot (already done in pic) and the 2 grommet washers that fit in the top spring cap? And what about the metal "tube" spacer that goes between those two grommets? Just spread that apart or go buy a new one?
thanks!
update: 1:58pm (I took a couple breaks) I drilled out the boot and 2 grommet-washers. The only thing remaining that doesn't fit is that silver sleeve collar. I've gone to Home Depot, Pep Boys and an independent car parts shop, nobody has such a part. I have tried to spread the collar, but the gap is uncomfortably wide now.
Is this piece really of any significance??? Structurally, it prevents the grommets from compressing when the top nuts are tightened. But it does not play any role in supporting the spring or weight of the car. At most, I see it affecting the most minute of motions of the shock shaft. Therefore, in this crowd, I think it may be important.
thanks for any input. Off to find the next closest parts store........
