Default VAFC2 and the OBD2 Problem

Was contemplating on getting a Apexi Neo cos the prices in the US was so cheap compared to bringing it from Japan.

I have done the research and it seems that the VAFC2 or Neo for that matter cannot tune the partial throttle settings cos the OBDII ecu we have in our cars unlearn everything the VAFC2 tell it to.

So there goes the Neo, Im not spending another 100 bucks on the screen and how pretty it looks if it cant be utilised 100%

So with that in mind how much are we using in terms of the VAFC2s capabilities and potential? Maybe 50-60%??

Ok so basically seeing as im from New Zealand and get cars directly from Japan would I have the same problem with the S2000 and the VAFC2?

I have had a Nissan Silvia S15 (200sx) and had the SAFC to that as well but never had any problems with this so called partial throttle tuning.

Even searching on the web for Japanese owners they dont really actually complain about these problems too, it only seems like the US owners complaining or warning others about this

Any comments appreciated

If you really think about it.. WOT is the only place you would really put those extra couple HP into action..

Not sure the difference for JDM compared to USDM ecu. But generally, the reason the partial throttle settings are re-set is due to the learning ecu.

This is easily defeated by resetting the ecu just before tuning the partial throttle corrections. Then about once a week resetting the ecu. Resetting the ecu sends it back to it's "basemaps" and it takes a while for it to learn and adjust for the corrections. Just based on my butt dyno, it seems to take about 2hrs of engine run time for the ecu to learn.

There are other alternatives to the VAFC you might consider. The Greddy e-Manage Ultimate is also a piggy-back but adjusts outputs rather than inputs...this should mean the ecu learning would not effect the corrections. It also allows you to change timing...and there is some hp to be had there.

The AEM EMS is also available if you can go with a stand-alone ecu. This is definitely the best route to go and allows inputs from a wideband installed in place of the 2nd O2 sensor.
