I thought Japanese virgins were .001?

I personally check mine every year... I'm on original ap1 retainers. Since I did the valves at 10k when the car was new, the clearances have barely changed at all in 100k miles. Maybe .001 on two valves.

I just scheduled a valve service at my dealership. Surprised they only charge $160. At that rate I'll have them checked every 25k.

I need to get mine done, at 97k now (and putting lots of miles on it) and I bet they've never been checked.

Assuming they did the work (correctly), I guess that's a good price for a dealership. I mean, at least it isn't $250, but it ain't $80 either.

I've had good interactions with them so I don't doubt that they'll do the work and do it right. I just figured for a dealership job it'd cost me more than $250 so I was pleasantly surprised. And for $160 it's totally not worth me DIYing it in the future.

It's a good idea to get it done e ven if that car seems fine
Evasive Motorsports gave me a valve adjustment today, only $100. Can't beat that. They told me my valves were very loose and way out of spec. I doubt it had ever been done before

Billman did my 12 year old car and it feels better than new. Highly recommend a valve adjustment from a competent mechanic. You will notice a difference!

I was serious about $160 being reasonable if they do a good job. If you're not handy or you value your time enough, there is nothing wrong with paying someone to do something. Specialization is important and letting an experienced mechanic look over your car may result in him discovering a small problem before it becomes a big one.

My concern is that they might just through a 9 and 11 thou feeler gauge, say that seems fine and not bother to adjust it to the lower end of the range to bang out a 1.5 hour (?) flat rate job in less than 20 minutes. Or worse, they could be be impatient and now wait for the engine to cool before making adjustments.
