Default Valve cover gasket

I need to have my valve cover powder coated. I just replaced the gasket
when i had my valves adjusted about 9 mos ago. Is it a good idea to replace
the gasket anytime you remove the the valve cover ?

Gasket is good for at least a decade if it was installed right.

You'll want to replace it. Generally once exposed to oil for any real length of time, they're horrible to try to get back in the cover once removed.

Make sure the powder coating place does not blast some kind of media at the cover or you will get that stuff forever in your engine.

Yes, he does. Sorry for being a douche, i couldn't resist that one though.

The blasting thing is way blown out of proportion and it stems from some magazine build where idiots didn't remove the baffles from their cover prior to handing it off to the blasters. Got it back, media got washed into motor, bearings fried.

Remove the baffles prior to dropping it off, slip the dude a $20 to do an extra good job cleaning it out, and clean it again yourself when you get it back before putting the baffles back on, and everything is fine.

Sorry for the delay, I missed the fun.

This:

"The blasting thing is way blown out of proportion and it stems from some magazine build where idiots didn't remove the baffles from their cover prior to handing it off to the blasters. Got it back, media got washed into motor, bearings fried."
End Quote

Actually there has been a number (don't ask me) of guy/gals here that have done exactly that and not just from some magazine. I am not an expert on media blasting but some are better than others. In addition there are other ways to prepare the cover for re-paint/powder coat.
I thought the baffes were riveted in place and could not be removed but again, I have not gone down that path.

Good luck! Pics when it is done.
