VERY hard getting into and especially out of 5th gear - any ideas?
Over the last month or so I've been noticing that 5th gear is hard to get into and REALLY hard to get out of, I almost have to forcibly pull it out of gear even with the clutch fully depressed. The rest of the gears are as sweet as they have always been. I've got an appointment scheduled for next week to take a look at doing the clutch TSB hoping that will fix the issue. However, I'm not convinced that will help since the symptoms aren't those described in the TSB.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?
I will say this, 5th is easily my least used gear, getting on the freeway I usually go to 1-4 then right to 6th. But I wouldn't think lack of use could be a problem. I'm also planning on doing the MT fluid and diff fluid next week.

I do notice it quite a bit more the closer to home/work I get depending on which direction I'm going. I've got a long commute and by the time I'm getting off the freeway it's almost pointless to try 5th. Did the tranny fluid change help at all?!?

If you are having trouble getting in or out of gear, short of being out of fluid, you more than likely have tranny damage. I would get it to the dealer ASAP before you do any more damage to the tranny.

Mine was fine after it cooled down. The fluid change made all gears slightly smoother, but nothing different between fifth and the others.
In your situation, I would do as marcucci suggests, and take it in for repairs. Until mine miraculously healed itself, I assumed that's what I would have to do.

Nothing heals itself.
My experience with Honda transmissions has been that when abused, they will act odd in heat... and then eventually get worse and worse, until gears stop engaging altogether. I obviously don't have much experience with the S2k gearbox, but I know that the front drivers can die in short order.
It's very worth having it looked at, especially if the car is under warranty.

I've been driving manual transmission cars for almost 20 years - and this is the first problem I've ever had with a tranny/clutch. I certianly wouldn't say this car has been abused either. It's never seen a track - unlike my Z which had a ton of track time on it. I'm about 1000 miles away from the upper mileage warranty limit and I better not get any heat from Honda on this one!!
